Rent | In a world very much polarized between the fantastically wealthy and desperately poor, Tokyo has become a city of pleasure, with hidden and secret fantasy clubs ready to indulge any sinful desire. Saiga, a photojournalist with a history of photographing live-action-deaths on distant battlefields, is now chasing after leads in the multiple assassinations of major political leaders. One day, he is asked to cover a secret society called the “Roppongi Club”, and succeeds in sneaking in undetected. Having reached a deep inner chamber of the club, he comes across an initiation ritual, where a goddess descends from above to give the innate a kiss of acceptance. The goddess, a girl named Kagura, gives him the kiss instead, bestowing on him a special ability, and asks that he help her flee from her circumstances. But the Roppongi Club does not intend to permit their goddess to escape, and their members have abilities of their own. |

Her typical day also includes stopping by local magazines where she does interviews and gives 'free' prizes to the winners of contests. But later, her side job is much more interesting: For certain large fees, she hunts down ghosts that are endangering people and send them off to the next world. Because Misaki is a 'Spirit Medium', a person able to see ghosts. |

Kimihiro Watanuki is a man who sees strange things such as spirits and the like. These spirits take on various forms and most are unpleasant to look upon. Wishing to not have to see such spirits, he stumbles upon the house of one Ichihara Yuuko and her two young helpers Maru and Moro. Yuuko-san tells Watanuki that his arrival at her home is hitsuzen, meaning he was destined to come there. Yuuko-san will grant Watanuki's wish, but at a price; he must now work for her where he now does things like cook, clean, and run errands for Yuuko-san, especially making runs to buy her sake and other such beverages. Watanuki complains, but does a good job and dreams of hooking up with the very cute Himawari-chan. |

Yuuko-san receives an invitation for the opening of an auction from a mysterious unknown sender. Likewise, fanatical collectors are summoned to an old mansion whose owner doesn't make an appearance. One after another, each collector disappears and a number of other strange occurrences happen during the night. The questions of what exactly it is that's being auctioned and who the owner of the mansion is must be solved in order for Yuuko-san and Watanuki-kun to get to the bottom of this. |

Continuing after the original series xxxHOLiC, Watanuki continues to work at Yuuko-san's shop. For this new series, Watanuki meets more interesting people and creatures including the Dream Buyer (who buys and sells dreams in the form of a balloon), Kohane-chan (a young girl who can see spirits), Doumeki's deceased grandfather, and more. Also, old favorite characters return such as Ame-Warashi and Zashiki-Warashi. Further, the secret of Himawari-chan is revealed as to why Yuuko-san tells Watanuki that Himawari-chan is not his goddess of good luck. |
