Wicked City should be placed in the Adult Anime section. It's basically porn with a plot, not a very good plot, but at least an attempt at one. I think this came out in the early 90's, but the animation looks really old. The music ain't so great either, but the Japanese singer's English is pretty good, unlike Puffy AmiYumi's. Wicked City carries the ridiculous Adult Manga concept that after a woman is gang raped, by hideous demons at that, she can simply be nonchalant and ready to have sex immediately afterwards. Not only that, but Makie enjoyed being gang raped...that just makes no sense. This movie also features forced tentacle oral sex, a vagina with razor sharp teeth, and an old man getting sucked into a demon prostitute's breasts. I'll admit I couldn't stop laughing during that scene though. That was exactly what Giuseppi deserved. I was grossed out by Wicked City, and I imagine guys of both sexual preferences would cringe in fear and disgust at the sight of a carnivorous vagina. There's also this gross scene that involves a giant, gaping, wrinkled, squirting vagina. According to a female character in Wicked City, the sight of such a thing was irresistible to all men. For a movie not even 1 hour and 30 minutes long, the writer sure managed to cram a bunch of senseless sexual content into it. Like Midnighter said, unless you like crap that involves gang rapes, tentacle oral sex, and wrinkled ass vaginas, avoid this crap at all costs. TOTAL GRADE: 58% F The only reason I think this movie deserves acknowledgement at all is its status as a cult classic and the fact its somewhat a pioneer in the occult horror genre, otherwise its a prime example of how much an anime can have wrong with it. The animation and music are pretty decent for the times but anyone who tries to pass it off as anything but a porn with gore is either lying to you or fooling themselves. My gripes include (but are not limited to): 1. Back story, who needs it? WICKED CITY sure doesnt. 2. A perverted old master (oh thats novel) 3. Hmmwe captured the female character again what should we do? Oh I know, rape the hell out of her! More or less WICKED CITY is like a porn, they pretend to have this grand plot but everything sooner or later leads to sex (consensual or otherwise). Granted, if youre into the hentai scene then you could do far worse that this title since it does pass for a little bit of interesting material, but WICKED CITY seems to play more to the horn-dog fan boy than any other audience. After the first time I saw this movie, I raved. For me, that's what anime waws all about...the action and the risque sexual references wrapped around a great story. That was a year ago. After seeing it recently, I was embarassed to have it in my collection. What I once thought was daring and "risque" turned out to be nothing but filth, pure and simple. What I'd imagined to be a great storyline turned out to be appallingly convoluted and gut-wrenchingly cheesy. The characters aren't belevable, or even likable. Taki in particular is a horrible person, full of testosterone-fueled misogynist rantings and led by the almighty desires to shoot stuff and get laid. Despite the fact that I've grown to despise this film, I still give it good marks for some of the excellent animation and effects, as well as some very cool monster designs. The plot is laid out well, despite the fact that the story is uninteresting and reeks like a thirteen year old boy's sheets after a wet dream. Speaking of which, the waste of time is laden with moments of absolutely gratuitous perversion and filth. It is apparent to me that the producers of this tripe wanted to make a hentai without crossing the line into explicit pornographic content. Their solution...well places shadows and suggestively shaped tentacles to keep it from being a porn, but they still managed to fit in lots of sex and oversized mammaries to satisfy the masses. Think of a cheesy B-movie, add gratuitous violence, nudity, and a "horny Yoda" and you get Wicked City, a barely watchable mess of an anime. The story was little more than an excuse to splatter creatures all over walls and get the female lead out of her clothes on a regular basis. Chauvanist crap like this may appeal to drunken frat-boys, but not to anyone with taste. Even the art and character designs were lousy. Why are the characters blue-colored thru out half the film? At least the animation itself was fairly impressive. This was a thourough disappointment, after hearing it bragged up by numerous people. Unless one is a fan of vaginas growing teeth and gang-rape fantasies, this is an appalling, chauvanistic waste of time and film. Last updated Friday, January 19 2001.
