In 17th-century China, a new Emperor assumes the throne and a contest is held in order to find a suitable girl to become his Empress. A young peasant girl named Ginga hears about it, promptly decides to enter (hey, three meals a day and a nap!), and heads to the palace. We follow Ginga as she adjusts to palace life and goes through her tasks as she is judged on her suitability for becoming the next Empress. In southern Europe during the 1920's, in the wake of WW-1, the spirit of adventure was still alive.
